Castle Rackrent

from F. Scott Fitzgerald – The Great Gatsby (Chapter V) on Rap Genius

Meaning

Castle Rackrent is a short novel by Maria Edgeworth. It is said to be the first novel in which the narrator is an observer rather than a player in the story that the character belongs to. Which brings up an interesting topic because in a way, Nick is more of an observer to the interactions between Gatsby and Tom and Daisy. Nick is not solely an observer, but there are times in which he does not actively participate in the occurrences during the story.
