“That’s the secret of Castle Rackrent. Tell your chauffeur to go far away and spend an hour.”
Castle Rackrent is a short novel by Maria Edgeworth. It is said to be the first novel in which the narrator is an observer rather than a player in the story. This brings up an interesting topic because in a way, Nick is more of an observer of the interactions between Gatsby and Tom and Daisy. He plays a relatively passive role.
