A Route of Evanescence Lyrics
A Route of Evanescence
With a revolving Wheel--
A Resonance of Emerald--
A Rush of Cochineal--
And every Blossom on the Bush
Adjusts its tumbled Head--
The mail from Tunis, probably,
An easy Morning's Ride--
With a revolving Wheel--
A Resonance of Emerald--
A Rush of Cochineal--
And every Blossom on the Bush
Adjusts its tumbled Head--
The mail from Tunis, probably,
An easy Morning's Ride--
About
Genius Annotation
Though Dickinson is mostly known for her dark poetry, she has written many lesser-known works involving nature.
Published in Complete Poems (1924), A Route of Evanescence was originally written in an 1880 letter to Dickinson’s friend Thomas Higginson.
Dickinson claimed in the letter that the poem describes the speedy yet beautiful journey of a hummingbird:
Dear friend, to the oriole you suggested I add a hummingbird and hope they are not untrue.
