A few of the many drinking fragments of the Lesbian (the island) poet, Alcaeus Ἀλκαῖος.
Alcaeus flourished in the 6th century BCE and was from the town of Mytilene. A good amount of his fragments survive, dealing with a wide range of topics like, politics, travelling, his exile, mythology, women and wine. Aside from his poetry, Alcaeus may be best known for his supposed love affair with his much more famous Lesbian counterpart, Sappho.
These translations are fairly literal, with some liberties taken to make them sound more like natural English.
