Also a pun on “usury”: in the Bible story, a master gives servants coins (talents) to turn a profit on them; when one servant buries the talent instead, the master chides him for not putting it in the bank and earning interest. The master is supposed to be God, but the Church forbade usury (or any earning of interest) as sinful, so this is…confusing
