The Professional Poet Lyrics

Beware, beware, the professional poet.
If you’ve got a secret, he’s certain to know it.
His fingers are feeling in all of the pies,
And his poems will spoil your surprise.

Take care, take care: the professional poet
Knows no deed so dark he won’t publicly show it.
He notes it all down in a little red book
From Location to How Long It Took.

Beware, oh! beware the professional poet!
If you’ve got a cover, you betcha he’ll blow it!
He pens your dark fancies, he writes out your crimes
(And he even makes sure that it rhymes).

Take care, take great care the professional poet
Stays shtum on your sin, doesn’t care to bestow it
On any old fellow who follows his tweets
Or some stranger he meets in the streets.

So if you’re afraid of his poisonous pen,
Of his critical literature – now and again
Take care to remind him, if he threatens you,
That you know some of his secrets too.
