How to Format Lyrics:

  • Type out all lyrics, even repeating song parts like the chorus
  • Lyrics should be broken down into individual lines
  • Use section headers above different song parts like [Verse], [Chorus], etc.
  • Use italics (<i>lyric</i>) and bold (<b>lyric</b>) to distinguish between different vocalists in the same song part
  • If you don’t understand a lyric, use [?]

  • “Drake is THE BEST RAPPER ALIVE!” This is a commentary (CM) because it is an opinion. Other people might disagree and think Drake is not the greatest rapper alive.

  • “Drake raps on his latest album: ‘You know it’s real when you are who you think you are.’ ” This is a concrete detail (CD) because it is a quote from one of his songs.
