Why does it build huge churches, but fails to feed the poor

from Jefferson Bethke – Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus (Spoken Word) on Rap Genius

Meaning

Many churches today focus on how to acquire many, many members, which necessitates large buildings and might be viewed as a symbol of their success. However, taking care of and serving the poor within their communities may not be a pressing issue on their agendas, but it is important to Jesus.

As said in Mark 10:21:

Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

2Pac’s view on the matter:

If the churches took half the money they was making and gave it back to the community we’d be alright. If they take half the buildings that they use to praise God, and gave it to motherfuckers that need God, we’d be alright.
