Son, the things that they're saying about me. I did wrong, I made some terrible mistakes. But the reasons were always. Things happened that I never intended...I never intended.
This is very similar to Walt’s video in the pilot where he admits he has made some mistakes but claims everything he did was for his family.
But as Walt tries to recreate that story, he can’t bring himself to say that he had good reasons for what he did anymore. Maybe because he realizes the story he sold himself and everyone around him was full of shit, since he has always cared more about money and power and beating Gretchen and Elliot than actually helping his family.
This episode marks the “death” of Walter White. In order to achieve that, he has to acknowledge he was never that good a person in the first place.
