Saul: The phone call was a smart move, kudos to you. Odds are, it was recorded, it's gonna play great for a jury, it might even buy her a mistrial. In a year and a half.
In the previous episode, “Ozymandias”, Walt makes a phone call to Skyler while the police listen in. In it, he takes all responsibility for his meth operation and makes it seem as though Skyler did not try to stop her husband only because she was being threatened by him. This was an attempt to protect her from being prosecuted.
At the end of “Ozymandias” we all viewed this phone call as a work of genius that would finally free Skyler of all blame after all she has been put through. But that belief gets smashed to pieces early in the episode; another one of Walt’s acts of genius that didn’t really achieve anything.
