I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit
This verse is perhaps better understood in the New International Version
I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
All worldly works only add to our pride, frustration and wickedness. It’s pointless trying to chase these worldly things. This is compared to chasing the wind — a pointless activity that won’t give you any satisfaction, you’ll never be able to catch it. People look for satisfaction in the wrong areas.
