The Dismemberment Plan

AKA: D-Plan

About The Dismemberment Plan

The Dismemberment Plan was an indie and math rock band formed in 1993. The name originates from a line utter from the movie Groundhog Day,

I have not seen this guy for twenty years, he comes up to me and then he buys whole life, term, uniflex, fire, theft, auto, dental, health, with the optional death and dismemberment plan, water damage. Phil this is the best day of my life!

Active during the late 90’s through the early 00’s, and returning in 2007 and 2013, the band currently is on indefinite hiatus. Mixing the art punk genre with Hip-hop and R&B influences, The Dismemberment Plan, commonly referred to as the D-Plan or simply The Plan by fans, were considered at the forefront–if not the creators–of the dance-punk movement of the early 2000’s.

Beyond their unique blend of indie rock and hip-hop, The Dismemberment Plan become infamous for front man Travis Morrison’s unique lyrics dealing with existentialism, loneliness, and alienation, often with hints of irony and sarcasm. This is particularly evident on their breakout album Emergency & I. Considered a “game-changer” for the indie rock genre, it’s often considered the band’s best album and is still considered a landmark of the genre.
