About Petrarch

Francesco Petrarca (July 20, 1304 – July 19, 1374) was an Italian poet, scholar, alpinist and often regarded as the first humanist.

Petrarch, along with Dante and Boccaccio, is often credited with helping to standardize the Italian language as well as developing the Italian sonnet, often called a Petrarchan sonnet.
