Henry James

A colossal figure in the history of American letters, Henry James (1843-1916) grew up in New York City but settled permanently in England upon visiting Europe in 1869. He wrote short stories, plays, criticism, travel books, and journalistic articles, but he is chiefly known for his novels, which frequently contrasted American and European mores and depicted its characters with keen psychological insight.
