Hector Hugh Munro

AKA: H.H. Munro

About Hector Hugh Munro

Saki, or Hector Hugh Munro, was born in Burma in 1870. He travelled widely during his childhood but spent most of his time in the care of an oppressive set of aunts in provincial England.

After resigning from the police due to ill health, he became a journalist and short story writer, publishing several collections during his lifetime.

He enlisted in the British Army when war broke out in 1914. He was killed in 1916 when he was shot by a sniper in the trenches. His last words, heard by a fellow soldier, were ‘Put that bloody cigarette out.’
