Dante Gabriel Rossetti was a 19th century English poet, illustrator, painter, and translator. He lived from 1828-1882. John Ruskin and Walter Pater, both of which were notable art critics of the era, deemed Rossetti to be “the most important and original artistic force in the second half of the nineteenth century in Great Britain” (Rossetti Archive).
