Dr Sun Yat-sen is the founder of the Chinese Republic and the only figure respected in both Taiwan and China, which are separated by the Taiwan strait. Taiwan and China don’t otherwise get along.

I’m Taiwanese, but I get love in China. So I’m like Dr Sun Yat-sen, they love me on both sides of the strait.

Mao Zedong and Chiang Kai-Shek were the two dueling leaders of China in the 20th century, Chiang Kai-Shek leading the Nationalists, Mao leading the Communists.
