That’s rough, but it’s also something that could keep them afloat by cutting positions that don’t serve much in practical purpose. If you estimate an average of $50K a year per employee – business end as the high bar, support end (sadly) as the low bar – you save $2.5M a year. That can be diverted to other, more essential functions within the company, or simply held onto as cushion for a tough time.

I like em-dashes when they have a space before and after them. I find it preserves the visual flow that the rest of the English language’s sentence structure naturally carries.

This is ambitious; it’s also an interesting and succinctly put goal, but it feels somewhat inaccurate given Medium’s focus on publishing texts. Media on the web increasingly means video, which Medium doesn’t publish, nor does it seem to have any especial interest in so doing.

I’d argue that the Medium vision is more creating a new model for, well, medium-length texts on the internet: that seems to be the goal of their product and partnerships so far.

I believe print will never truly die, but I also think that not supporting or integrating other forms of media dissemination into the mix hinders achieving the lofty goal they’ve set for themselves.

The “father” hat is something you live wearing. Ain’t no taking that motherfucker off. You either have it on all the time, or you never put it on in the first place. No half-measures in this game.

Okay, I won’t overdo this, but it’s pretty telling that the same #mainstreammedia that had a field day when Trump completely botched the whole “cyber” question in the first debate now reports hacking via a screen in a video game whose universe does not include the invention of the microchip.

It’s not so much “huh huh huh, CNN are stupid”, but the way they present the idea of hacking to a viewership probably without a lot of technical expertise, but a lot of concern over what hacking is and how it’s done, seems quite stupid indeed.
