Fiefdoms are old. Archaic. Outdated and feudal. Not something we have in our interconnected modern world of freedom and technology.
Except they’re not.
The private – corporate – fascist system is feudal, constructed by interlocking fiefdoms which serve to enrich the rich and impoverish the poor.
That’s a fact.

The repetition brings the reader’s mind back to the start of the poem. We now know that the “burning bright” refers to more than just the orange fur; it’s symbolic of the modern age, of industry, of humans becoming God-like in their control and mastery of the world.
This part of the poem may be thought by some to be confusing because light and brightness usually symbolizes God and his goodness against evil. The burning in the night here could symbolize something evil lurking in the dark; the fires of hell.
And finally the first lines are repeated, a cyclical structure, showing that the questions asked at the start of the poem are still being asked at the end
