But they are utterly destructive. A lot of bad shit happens as a result of the Underwoods' hubris, and that’s despite their manipulative prowess.

This is a great way to take lyrics out of context. This verse was preceded by various ways that he “could’ve been a better man.”

While it could mean that her current man abuses her, it more likely refers to the idea that she has experience of this type of behavior in past relationships.

Also, his repetition of the word “no” indicates that this isn’t just a “standard” for him. It is something inconceivable.

This perfect lead into Valentine’s Day shows Sy Ari’s realization that he got his priorities all screwed up—he should’ve put his girl first.

Over the slow-moving beat with subdued claps and a watery synths, both Sy Ari and Bryson Tiller show regret for valuing work and other priorities over the one they love. Now that they’ve loved and lost, they want to get back together.
