To be more precise, Microsoft Word suggests Lord Margarine.

So let’s be thankful G. R. R. Martin doesn’t use fancy word processors.

  • “you have been saved.” Salvation is a completed action that has a present effect. In his earlier letters Paul usually refers to salvation either as a future event (Romans 5:9-10) or as a present process (1 Corinthians 1:18; 2 Corinthians 2:15). One exception is Romans 8:24, where Paul puts salvation in the past, but qualifies it as needing completion at Christ’s return: “in this hope we were saved.”

  • “And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” This parenthesis is thought by many to refer to the whole complex of salvation by grace through faith as a gift of God. Others, however, take “this” as referring specifically to “faith.” Sinners are dependent on God’s gracious gift for their believing response to Christ from the moment of conversion. Paul makes explicit here what is implicit elsewhere in the New Testament about the ultimate source of saving faith (Acts 13:48; Philippians 1:29).

“We know” is in reference to the Christian assessment that the present in the light of their assurance about the future. As true Israelites, in whom the first and great commandment is fulfilled (Matthew 22:37-38), their love for God is evoked by knowledge of His love for him (Romans 5:5–8).

The use of “called” here means that they were simply brought to faith.

“According to his purpose” is in reference to the purpose of God, which guarantees “good” for His people. For them this is not necessarily ease and quiet, but being like Christ. God’s providence rules in such a way as to ensure everything that happens to Christians is working for their ultimate good. This echoes God’s revelation of His benevolent purpose in Jeremiah 29:11.

The prophet Jeremiah comes to the nation of Israel at a time where the Hebrew people have lost their political sovereignty and have descended into moral ruin. The Israelites were taken captive by the Babylonians, torn apart as a nation, and succumbed to false prophets who only spoke what the people wanted to hear.

To this audience Jeremiah delivers admonition from God but also a message of hope, that God will rescue his people once again after seventy years of captivity. In this particular verse, God reminds his nation that he cares for them, that he has plans of peace for their lives.

This is one of the most salient verses in the Old Testament because it provides a glimpse of the nature of God. Regardless of what is happening in our limited, human reality, God desires only good and prosperity for those he created and loves so much. This reassurance, coming from the heart of God himself, is the ultimate source of hope.

Paul echoes this message in the New Testament in Romans 8:28.

Though we at Genius do our best to interpret Jaden Smith’s message to the world, we realize we may not always get it right. We’d be stoked to have Jaden on the site, verified, annotating his own tweets.

We want to understand, Jaden!

Notice the capitalization of Ship in RelationShip. He not only capitalizes every word, but every part of compound words.

The 200% part shows that when two people work together they can accomplish what previously seemed impossible.

Jaden is not offended by the cliche old sins like wrath and sloth. Instead he chastises ignorance. He urges us toward enlightenment.

He implies his own enlightenment–for how could he have produced this Tweet were he not himself Aware?

Most kids are trying to just chill and enjoy Xbox at this young age, but Jaden’s deep questions upon the meaning of life and truth make some people uncomfortable. As does that all-white batman costume mentioned earlier.

There’s so much to work with in this tweet. Taken literally, Jaden has gotten hit in the eyes with both alcohol and water, and both sting just the same. But that’s not actually true – rubbing alcohol in your eyes hurts much more! Maybe the “water in the eyes” is actually tears, which hurt, on an emotional level, just as much as the physical pain of alcohol in the eyes.

And the obligatory Garfield mockup, via Buzzfeed:

One other thing to keep in mind: this Tweet was written by the person who wore an all-white Batman costume to a wedding.
