The dark spaces flanked the stage, leaving very little room for the actors to negotiate. As it happened, we ended up with even less onstage space than we’d anticipated: we were unable to use the door that was supposed to border the set stage left, cutting off the size of the back wall by another few feet. This turned out to be serendipitous as it added some much-needed asymmetry to the set, and made the remaining door that much more imposing.

I didn’t say this. The BT is above ground, on the first floor. What I said is that it feels underground, since it is quite claustrophobic and bare.

This isn’t strictly true. There were two main producers, a technical manager and a composer also involved in the show.
