Tweet may still be best known for her 2002 single “Oops (Oh My),” but she’s also been a part of a great many important pop and hip-hop moments of the last two decades.

A member of the female trio Sugah Daddy in the nineties, Tweet would meet Missy Elliott and Timbaland when they were all a part of Devante Swing’s Swing Mob songwriting collective. Tweet would contribute backing vocals on Miss E…So Addictive as well as 2001 records from Ja Rule, Bubba Sparxx and Petey Pablo.

2002 brought “Oops” and Tweet’s solo debut Southern Hummingbird. “Oops (Oh My)” would hit number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. Throughout the rest of the 2000s, Tweet would release three more solo albums and continue to appear on Missy Elliot tracks.

this song is cool and prob a top 3 biggest/most important song of the year. but this feels like a song that would have been in the 40s/50s if not for the mannequin challenge and putting it at #15 is already adjusting for the impact that it made – don’t really see the need to move it any higher.

“You Really Got a Hold On Me” is a classic song by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles that’s been covered by Michael Jackson and The Beatles. Smokey himself also did a great cover of his own hit for Sesame Street.

Puppy love is a term usually used by adults to describe childhood /teenage romance that people will grow beyond. Gambino is so in love with this girl he is sure the feelings are real. It isn’t just skin deep; it’s not puppy love.

This lyric, as well as the song’s title, “Me and Your Mama” could be in reference to the classic refrain of Outkast’s “Ms. Jackson”:

“Me and your daughter got a special thing going on
You say it’s puppy love, we say it’s full-grown”

Glover’s screenplay for Because the Internet also references the Outkast song; Fam says
:

Marriage is so wack. I mean, I get it. But come on, yo. Forever?
(“Ms. Jackson”)
Forever, ever? Forever, ever?

It’s also worth noting that Gambino has another song on his album with a similar title: “The Night Me and Your Mama Met”.

It’s also worth mentioning that “Puppy Love” was a hit song by Paul Anka, released in 1960, 22 years before “You Really Got A Hold On Me” was released by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles.

Paul Anka sings about how his relationship isn’t just puppy love, reflecting exactly how Childish Gambino feels in this Bridge.
