Lil Wayne never said this. This is my contribution to Lil Wayne misquotes.

New Orleans had 193 murders in 2012. “Mayor Landrieu says that the murder epidemic in New Orleans is largely confined to African-American men between the ages of 16 and 30, both victims and perpetrators. Murder is the leading cause of death for that demographic group, he said.”

This line plays on the idea of the miracle of Lil Wayne missing all vital organs in his self-inflicted gun shot wound. In conjunction with the epigraph from Foucault, it links Lil Wayne’s near death experience to his later obsession with being “alien.”

This refers to Lil Wayne’s accidental, self inflicted gun shot wound, which occurred on Nov. 11, 1994.

This is a collaborative poem written by Megan Burns and Atlanta poet Gina Myers (who also took the photo of the penguin). It was written in Atlanta while we listened to the Lil Wayne station on Pandora and passed the paper back and forth adding lines.

This is an epistolary poem. It is the final poem in the sequence and mirrors the Day 1 poem, which is also a epistolary poem to Weezy.

This line begins to parallel Lil Wayne and Louis Zukofsky, in the sense that others control or seek profit from their artistic output. In Zukofsky’s case, it’s his son and in Lil Wayne’s case, the people who profit from his brand. The “martyr” also plays on Lil Wayne’s recent brush with death.

Magpies steal shiny objects. Poets steal shiny words. Objectivists make poem objects. Lil Wayne is a Magpie. This is poem logic.
