After the Federal Levee failures destroyed much of New Orleans in 2005, there was a lot of talk about not rebuilding the city. As of 2013, the city is in some ways recovered (see New Orleans East for exceptions), but a new blight is now occurring in outsiders moving into the city and trying to erase New Orleans' culture and replace it with their own idea of what New Orleans should be. As most of these newcomers are also white, the ethnic make up of the city is also threatened.
