Not to be confused with an anonymous play titled The Taming of a Shrew written some time around the premiere of this comedy, this play is unusual amid Shakespeare’s work in that it contains a framing device, in which a nobleman and a tinker watch the main action in the form of a play performed for their benefit. This controversial comedy is about a Veronese fortune hunter who comes to Padua and does a favor for a nobleman by marrying his temperamental oldest daughter.
