About “Songs of Experience”

Songs Of Experience is the fourteenth studio album by Irish rock band U2, which is released on December 1, 2017, via Island Records. It is intended to be a companion release to 2014’s Songs of Innocence. These two studio album titles were also inspired by a collection of poems by the 18th-century English mystic and poet, William Blake.

The album was first mentioned in a letter from Bono to fans during the release of Songs of Innocence:

…If you like Songs of Innocence, stay with us for Songs of Experience. It should be ready soon enough… although I know I’ve said that before.

…and more recently announced in an interview with The New York Times saying

We needed some distance from it, the world had changed. We needed to put things on pause to take in the scale of the change.

The record includes the previously shared tracks “Blackout”, “You’re The Best Thing About Me”, ”Get Out of Your Own Way,” and ”American Soul.“ It also includes contributions from Ryan Tedder, Jacknife Lee, and Steve Lillywhite, and the original track from which contributions were featured in “XXX.” (from Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN.).
