God Put a Smile Upon Your Face is the fourth single released off Coldplay’s second album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head.

Unlike other singles such as Clocks and The Scientist, God Put a Smile Upon Your Face was released with only one B-side – “Murder.”

The single itself was released 11 months after the album on which it appeared, and thus saw comparably limited success to the earlier singles. It charted in six countries – Australia, New Zealand, Poland, Italy, The Netherlands and the UK.

Rolling Stone critic Rob Sheffield was particularly positive toward the song, writing:

‘God Put a Smile Upon Your Face’ is the slinkiest and best thing Coldplay have ever done.
