About “A Rush of Blood to the Head”

A Rush of Blood to the Head is the sophomore studio album from British alt-rock group Coldplay. A critical and commercial success, the album earned Coldplay three Grammys including the coveted Record of the Year for their hit single, “Clocks.”

The lead single from the album, “In My Place,” was released on August 5, 2002. Other singles from the album included “The Scientist” and “God Put a Smile Upon Your Face.”

The album follows the concept of “Emotional Intelligence” and lack of consciousness towards one’s feelings and an inability to be aware of emotions which could result in impulsive behavior and regret, mentioned many times in the album. In the songs “In My Place,” “The Scientist,” and “A Rush of Blood to the Head,” the protagonist tries to look at his problems in a more “scientific” approach and hence calls his impulsive behavior “A Rush of Blood to the Head.”
