How we fell.

A thousand years of sun,
Soft mist from the waterfall,
Gentle breezes from the blue sea,
Bright nights lit by moon.

Ended. Sudden. Dramatic.

Ended.

The actions of one
A consequence for all.
Burning heat.
Tortuous rain.
Choking clouds.
Angry sea.

It fought back.
Seized control,
Of what we had loved.
It fought back,
Destroying instantly,
In a vicious flood.

In harmony, we had been,
Since first humanity was seen.
Taking only what was needed,
Ensuring that the land was seeded.
Respecting her and all that made her,
Acting only in a way so fair.

But then he came.
Aiming to gain.
Rules changed.
So did the people.
Slowly, though. Greed
Crept in. Stealthily.
Generations slipped.
Land turned brown;
Land became bare.
The falls stalled.
The spray slowed.
Sun grew larger.

Time seemed to stop,
As heat grew. Seas
Stormed up. Waves
Crashed down.
We'd broken her trust;
She smashed our peace.

We couldn't punish
The man who began
Out terrible fall.
Chance had passed.

We bear our yoke
On burning shoulders.
Tend the land
With tender hands.
