Ela se utiliza de referências religiosas para invocar sentimentos de desespero e como um discurso de protesto. A censura da ditadura não agiu quando a música foi publicada em um jornal, mas quando foi cantada em público a polícia tentou intervir. Quando se libertou da censura, a faixa tornou-se um grande sucesso no fim de 1978.


This song was released on Chico Buarque’s self-titled 1978 album. It was co-written by Gilberto Gil and features many double meanings. It uses religious references to evoke feelings of despair and as a discourse of protest. Censors had not acted when the song was published in a newspaper but when they tried to sing it in public police came and tried to stop them. When the song was freed from censors it became a top-ten song in late 1978.
