Genesis 1:31: And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, [it was] very good.
Everything God makes is good…Some things just choose not to stay that way.
At each step of creation, God sees that it is “good.” Here, at the completion of creation, he declares it “very good.”
Rabbi Joseph Telushkin believes, in Biblical Literacy, his book explaining the most important people, events, and ideas of the Hebrew Bible (the OLd Testament), that God’s view of His creation is optimistic. As good as it was, it was, however, unfinished. Scholars of the Talmud have deduced from God’s ceasing to create, that it is our mission to continue the work and perfect the world.
