Genius Annotation

This statue of Apollo, which came to the media’s attention on Feburary 11th, 2014, is probably around 2000 years old.

It was seized by Hamas after a Palestinian fisherman, who claims to have found it in the sea, was attempting to sell it on eBay for $500,000.

Apollo is one of the most famous and important Greek gods, son of Zeus, and patron god of, inter alia the sun, poetry, music and truth. He’s most famously depicted in the Apollo Belvedere statue (c. 120-140 C.E.), which itself is a marble copy of a bronze original.
