The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
The tender crops and young sun. Chaucer is describing the plants as being fertile, since they have just been born again after dying from the cold winter.
The sun is ‘younge’ because the solar year has just begun: the vernal equinox was on the 12th of March.
