Gentile or Jew
Eliot’s phrasing is biblical and thus adds grandeur to these lines. “Gentile or Jew” is also pretty negative in this context: it basically says, regardless of your religion, you’ll be no more than a pair of ragged bones, sweeping across the floors of silent seas.
