Semicolons are used to connect two independent clauses which are somehow related.
Although it is more common to use periods and commas throughout the middle or the end of sentences, semicolons are equally acceptable.
She went to the market; he went to the mall.
John is socially inept; however, he is able to articulate himself clearly during job interviews.
