Whitney Young

from Gil Scott-Heron – The Revolution Will Not Be Televised on Rap Genius

Whitney Moore Young, Jr. was a civil rights activist most famous for turning the National Urban League from a small, mostly passive civil rights group to an aggressive activist organization fighting for the rights of the socioeconomically disadvantaged and historically disenfranchised African-American community. He was president of the Urban League from 1961 until his death in 1971.
