To recreate the syntax and measure of poor human prose and stand before you speechless and intelligent and shaking with shame, rejected yet confessing out the soul to conform to the rhythm of thought in his naked and endless head,

from Allen Ginsberg – Howl on Rap Genius

Meaning

Freeverse poetry is a breaking away from traditional rhyming poetry, and attempts to recreate the normal method of human speech. Ginsberg feels ashamed for distancing himself from the great literary traditions, even though a tenet of the Beat movement, of which he was a central figure, was stylistic innovation and rejection of received standards. He also had begun to bald, hence, “naked … head.”
