Perhaps Salinger’s biggest gripe with Hollywood and movies stems from the fact that Hollywood didn’t have much love for him! ‘Rumblings from Hollywood’ over one of his short stories came to nothing, which made him despise Hollywood. And when an independent director asked to turn one of his short stories into a movie, he agreed; but the movie was firstly a ‘bastardization’ of his original story as it departed greatly from his short story, and secondly it was met with underwhelming reviews. After this, he vowed to never allow any of his works to be turned into films.
