“I didn’t know what you’d want, Mr. Gatsby——”
Nick was so used to calling Gatsby by the name that he conjured up that he forgot his real name was actually Gatz. Mr. Gatz quickly distances himself from the fake name. It does seem that Mr. Gatz loves his son but it seems like he doesn’t fully approve of him throwing away his old life for the “American dream”.
