Stagnant in the heat, one small sail crawled slowly toward the fresher sea. Gatsby’s eyes followed it momentarily; he raised his hand and pointed across the bay.
This is exactly what happens in Chapter 1, when Gatsby is reaching his shaking hand toward the green light across the bay, symbolizing wealth and somewhat Daisy as well. This scene shows that he is still looking for that wealth and money that he’s been dreaming about, that idea of easy money, and a lavish lifestyle.
