The actual formal ending to a Upanishad is
Om, Shantih, Shantih, Shantih.
No small amount of critical debate has arisen over whether Eliot removes the “Om” to make the three Shantihs antithetic to their supposed purpose-
Or whether his understanding of the Upanishads and Sandsrit did not encompass this formal structure when he wrote the poem and the Shantihs are to be read as his note states he intended
