Gatsby was so obsessed with his dream that it was impossible to attain. The dream went farther back into darkness and soon became unreachable. Gatsby’s material success was actually a failure in the big picture. His dream was in sight but it became warped and unreachable. He hoped and planned for a future life with Daisy that life was only possible in the past.
