The old Metropole

from F. Scott Fitzgerald – The Great Gatsby (Chapter IV) on Rap Genius

Meaning

The Hotel Metropole was the first hotel in New York City that had running water in every room. The old Metropole was located at 147 West 43rd Street just off of Times Square. It does seem a little odd calling it the ‘old’ Metropole in this story, considering it was built in 1912, and this story is set around the year 1920.
