The Miners' strike of 1984 led to almost all British pits being closed down. Miners' Union leader Arthur Scargill and Prime Minister Thatcher’s appointee as Coal Board chief, Ian MacGregor made it personal.
It was a turning point in British society, splitting the nation depending on their point of view. Mining villages, even families were at war, as the police and miners battled at pit heads.
