5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
At first glance, one may assume that those who cry and weep for the dead will be comforted in their time of trouble.
But there is a greater picture here:
Mourning is a sign of brokenness. Contrition in one’s heart.
Life as a Christian is difficult in this world due to so many enemies namely: the World, the Flesh, and the Devil.
Jesus probably has in mind mourning over one’s own iniquities. Repentance comes when one realizes they are a wretched sinner. Read also James 4:1-10 and you have this same lesson repeated. Pay close attention to James 4:9 :)
