Highbury bore me. Richmond and Kew
Undid me.

from T.S. Eliot – The Waste Land on Rap Genius

Meaning

Highbury bore me. Richmond and Kew
Undid me.

Eliot alludes to Canto V Purgatorio to La Pia’s recollections:

“Siena made me, Maremma unmade me”

La Pia was married to her Noble husband at Siena and later imprisoned, tortured, and poisoned by him in the fortress at Maremma.

-This is another description of a murder and imprisonment.

-Perhaps Eliot’s speaker was born in Highbury, and imprisoned at Richmond or Kew.

-The later two locations (Richmond or Kew) are parts of West London on the Thames.
