Social Reading, Thinking, and Writing
Social reading is an emergent concept in education, but a November 2012 article in The Chronicle of Higher Education gives a nice overview—though they neglect to mention the OG of “social reading,” Rap Genius!
As Bob Stein of the Institute for the Future of the Book has said:
…the shift to social reading is a foundational cornerstone of the new media ecology.
The basic idea is that, in addition to the experience of reading as a kind of solitude, reading along with others, whether a classroom or a broader intellectual community, is a powerful way to experience a text.
In fact, people have been reading aloud together for centuries!
