“Etiolated” = pale, tired, weak; “alembicated” = overrefined, as of a literary style. Eliot thinks the ladies view him as a ridiculous little twit, both a poet and as, y'know, a man.
‘Etiolated’ has the anagram, ‘Eliotated.’ If that didn’t amuse Eliot, it sure can make us smile.
