Genius Annotation

“Is My Team Ploughing” is one of the better-known poems from A Shropshire Lad, an 1896 collection by A(lfred) E(dward) Housman (1859-1936). It consists of a dialogue between a dead country youth and his still-living friend, who…hasn’t been the world’s greatest friend since his buddy went underground. The dialogue may be taking place inside the mind of the living friend, who seems to have a guilty conscience.
